Monthly review – An eventful June
We look back on a particularly varied and eventful month – full of exciting activities, new experiences and shared adventures!
Reading picnic & summer fun
A real highlight was our reading picnic in the garden of one of our students. In a wonderful atmosphere, the children immersed themselves in exciting detective stories and showed great skill in solving riddles and puzzles. A heartfelt thank-you to the parents for the delicious refreshments! The day was rounded off with fun games and a refreshing water balloon fight, which caused great excitement in the summer temperatures.
Learning in the great outdoors
Our other outdoor activities were also a great success: On the trip to Mönchsberg, with a breathtaking view over Salzburg, English vocabulary was revised in a playful way and maths tasks were also tackled diligently.
During the long break, we also very often used the nearby Stölzpark. Once a week, the second class spent a longer time there to use it for English games and activities. Pictured here is the popular Monster Game as well as another game with our American guest Malachi.
Hard work in the classrooms
In addition to the trips, we also worked intensively in class:
Year 1: In craft lessons, creative bottle boats are currently being made and individually designed.
Year 2 – project “Jobs”: Under the motto “What do you want to be when you grow up?”, the children explored different career fields in depth.
Exciting workshops in June
AI and finance: Insights into working with artificial intelligence at BMW, as well as the basics of finance.
Music workshop with the Mozarteum: Two musicians from the Mozarteum orchestra – including a father from our school community – visited us and gave the children exciting insights into their instruments and their work as musicians.
Workshop “144 – Help is right here!”: Together with two volunteer paramedics, the children in Years 3 and 4 learned the basics of first aid, practised resuscitation on a training dummy, tried out helping “injured” people, and learned interesting facts about training, emergency vehicles and everyday life in the emergency services. Of course, a look inside the ambulance was a must! The children were absolutely thrilled – many thanks for this educational morning!
Workshop at Ping Pong Poke restaurant: A look behind the scenes of a restaurant, including hands-on help with preparation.
Health and safety at work: Insights into occupational health and safety at DM.
Waste separation and the environment: After an interesting talk, we took part in a joint litter-picking activity – an educational and at the same time fun effort for the environment.
English and Leader in Me
A bigger English project in Year 3 this year was once again a play: This time, we learned from Little Miss Trouble how best NOT to behave … But in the end, Little Miss Trouble is also allowed to learn from Mister Happy how you can choose to be happy, and how good it is to begin with the end in mind (see the Leader in Me concept). The children already played their roles brilliantly on the taster day – we’re looking forward to the school festival, where we will perform the play again. In the end, we can see how our Leader in Me concept somehow fits into every situation, every story.
Taster day & looking forward to the new school year
On the taster day, our future students spent a few lovely hours with us together with their parents: presentations of songs and short English stories, getting to know the future classes and teachers, learning through play, and trying on the new school uniforms. Everyone went home full of anticipation for the coming school year.
Preparations for graduation
With great commitment, rehearsals are currently underway for the songs for the graduation Mass as well as the programme for the graduation celebration.
